This mute video tool loads a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg only after you start. It maps the first video stream, drops all audio, subtitles, data tracks, attachments, and file metadata, and writes a new video in a compatible container. It does not decode or re-encode the picture.

Stream copying is fast and avoids generation loss, but browser memory still holds the source, media engine, and output at once. The conservative limit ranges from 100 MB on mobile or low-memory hardware to 500 MB on high-memory desktops. Large 4K recordings, encrypted media, damaged files, or unusual container and codec combinations may need a desktop editor.

FAQ

Is my video uploaded when I mute it?

No. The video is read from a local browser file object and processed by a WebAssembly media engine in this tab. The engine code downloads on first use, but your source and muted result are not sent to that server or stored in a CanDoYa account.

Is this mute video tool free?

Yes. You can remove audio, compare the previews, and download the muted video without an account, subscription, credit limit, or watermark. The practical limits are your device's memory and speed, with a conservative cap from 100 MB on mobile to 500 MB on high-memory desktops.

What video formats can I mute?

The tool accepts common containers including MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, MPEG, WMV, MTS, and related formats. It keeps a compatible source container instead of forcing every file into MP4. A damaged file or an unusual codec and container pairing can still fail.

Does muting a video reduce picture quality?

No. The tool uses stream copy for the first video track, which avoids decoding and re-encoding the picture. Its encoded frames, dimensions, frame rate, and visual quality remain unchanged. Only audio and other non-video streams are left out of the new file.

Will it remove every audio track?

Yes. The output disables all audio streams, including alternate language, commentary, and additional microphone tracks. It keeps the first video stream only. If you need to retain one specific audio track or subtitle stream, use a desktop media editor with detailed stream mapping controls.

What happens if the video is already silent?

The tool still creates a clean video-only copy. This keeps the process reliable across browser engines and also removes subtitles, data tracks, attachments, and file metadata without changing the picture stream.

Why might a muted video not preview in my browser?

Browsers support fewer containers and codecs than FFmpeg. For example, a browser may process an MKV or AVI file but decline to play it in the page. You can still download the result and open it in a compatible media player. Preview support does not determine whether audio was removed.

Can I mute a very large or long video?

Browser processing holds the source and result in memory, so very large videos can exhaust a phone or laptop even though the picture is not re-encoded. Use the displayed device limit, close heavy tabs, keep this tab open, and use desktop software for multi-gigabyte or long 4K projects.
