01 / Overview

What is a tournament bracket generator?

A tournament bracket generator turns a list of teams or players into a single-elimination draw. Enter 2 to 32 participants, keep your seed order or shuffle locally, and the tool places any required byes automatically. Click each match winner to advance them through the bracket, then copy or print the result.

Who it's for

  • Local sports organizers running a short tennis, table tennis, pickleball, or five-a-side knockout.
  • Gaming communities tracking a 1v1 console, fighting game, chess, or card-game event.
  • Teachers and youth leaders arranging quiz, debate, spelling, or classroom competitions.
  • Offices and clubs making a private bracket for game night, awards, or a friendly challenge.

This bracket maker is designed for one clear format: single elimination, where one loss removes a participant from the tournament. Seed as entered when rankings matter, or use the shuffled draw for a casual event. The title, draw, and winner picks are saved in local browser storage. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing site data removes the saved tournament.

A field that is not a power of two needs byes in the first round. The tool expands the draw to the next size of 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32, then places empty slots against the highest seeds. Later rounds fill only when earlier matches are decided. If you change an earlier winner, every dependent result is cleared so the bracket cannot keep an impossible finalist.

FAQ

Is my tournament data uploaded?

No. Participant names, the bracket, and winner selections stay in your browser. The tool uses local browser storage so the current tournament can survive a refresh, but it does not send the draw to CanDoYa. Clearing this tournament or your site data removes the saved copy.

Is the tournament bracket generator free?

Yes. You can create, play through, copy, and print as many single-elimination brackets as you need without an account or payment. The work runs locally in your browser, so there is no hosted tournament page or paid sharing tier.

How many participants can I add?

You can add from 2 to 32 distinct teams or players. That covers a direct final through a five-round, 32-participant bracket. Larger events, double elimination, round robin, group stages, scores, and public live links are outside this tool's scope.

How do byes work in a single-elimination bracket?

Byes are needed when the field is not a power of two. The bracket expands to the next power-of-two size and the highest seeds receive the empty first-round positions. They advance automatically, leaving a balanced number of participants for round two.

How does tournament seeding work?

Seed as entered treats the first line as seed 1, the second as seed 2, and so on. Standard bracket placement puts the top two seeds in opposite halves and pairs higher seeds against lower seeds, helping the strongest ranked participants avoid meeting early.

What happens if I change an earlier winner?

The new winner advances, and every later result that depended on the old matchup is cleared. This safeguard prevents a previous semifinal or final choice from remaining after one of its participants has changed. Unaffected matches keep their results.

Can I save or print the bracket?

The current bracket saves automatically in this browser. Copy summary produces a plain-text record, while Print bracket opens a clean layout that you can print or save as PDF through your browser. This tool does not create a public link or sync between devices.
