Use Add VAT when your starting price excludes tax. Use Remove VAT when the amount already includes tax and you need its underlying net value. The calculator rounds money to the nearest cent and keeps the three figures consistent. Rates vary by country, product and transaction, so confirm the applicable rate with your tax authority or adviser.

FAQ
How do I calculate VAT on a net price?
Multiply the net price by the VAT rate to find the tax, then add that tax to the net price. At 20%, a net price of 100 has 20 VAT and a gross price of 120. Choose Add VAT in the calculator to perform both steps.
How do I remove VAT from a gross price?
Divide the VAT-inclusive gross price by 1 plus the VAT rate as a decimal. At 20%, divide by 1.20. A gross price of 120 becomes 100 net, and the 20 difference is VAT. Do not subtract 20% directly from the gross amount.
Can I enter a custom VAT rate?
Yes. Enter any rate from 0% to 100%, including decimal rates such as 5.5%. Rates can differ by jurisdiction, item and transaction, so the calculator does not assume that one preset is correct for every use.
Does the currency change the VAT calculation?
No. Currency only changes how the amount is displayed. The same percentage formula works for euros, pounds, dollars and other decimal currencies. Choose a currency for readable output, then use the VAT rate that applies to your specific transaction.
How does the calculator round VAT?
The calculator converts the entered amount to the nearest cent, calculates the net or VAT amount, and rounds the result to the nearest cent. Invoice and tax rules can prescribe different line-level or total-level rounding, so use your required accounting method for official records.
Is this VAT calculator free and private?
Yes. The calculator is free, has no sign-up and runs entirely in your browser. The amounts and rates you enter are not uploaded. You can use it as often as needed, subject only to the normal numeric limits shown by the input validation.
