01 / Overview

How can I edit PDF metadata?

Use a PDF metadata editor to load the document properties, change fields such as title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, and dates, then save a new copy. This tool performs those steps in your browser, so the PDF is not uploaded to CanDoYa or a conversion server.

How to use

  1. 01
    Add your PDF

Drop one PDF onto the tool or click Choose PDF. The existing document properties are read locally.

  2. 02
    Edit the properties

Update the title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, or dates. Blank a field if you want to remove that standard property.

  3. 03
    Save and check the copy

Choose Save metadata, download the new PDF, and check its properties in the reader or publishing workflow where you plan to use it.

Who it's for

  • Authors and publishers replacing an old working title or adding a clear author and subject before release.
  • Operations teams standardizing titles, keywords, and creator details across reports before archiving them.
  • Job seekers and consultants correcting the author name or title shown in the properties of a resume, proposal, or portfolio.
  • Document owners blanking unneeded standard properties before sharing a copy outside their organization.

PDF metadata is the descriptive information stored with a document rather than printed on its pages. Clean properties make a file easier to identify in a reader, digital library, archive, or document search. This editor shows the current values before you change them, highlights edits, and lets you blank individual fields. It writes the result to a new download, leaving your source PDF untouched.

The editor targets the PDF's standard document information fields. Some publishing and archival PDFs also contain a separate XMP metadata stream. When the tool detects one, it shows a warning because different PDF readers can prefer different metadata records.

FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded when I edit its metadata?

No. The browser reads and rewrites the PDF on your device. CanDoYa does not receive the document or its metadata values. The downloaded copy is created with the local PDF library loaded by the page, which makes the editor suitable for private drafts and internal reports.

Is this PDF metadata editor free?

Yes. You can view, edit, clear, copy, and save standard PDF properties without payment, sign-up, or a watermark. A PDF can be up to 100 MB. Your device memory and browser can impose a lower practical limit for unusually complex documents.

Which PDF metadata fields can I change?

You can change the title, author, subject, keywords, creator application, PDF producer, creation date, and modification date. These are the common document information fields shown in the properties panel of many PDF readers. Blank fields are removed from that standard property record.

Does changing PDF metadata alter the visible pages?

The editor does not add, remove, rotate, or redraw pages. It saves the existing PDF with updated document properties. As with any PDF rewrite, check signed, certified, archival, or workflow-sensitive documents after download because saving a changed file can affect signatures or validation status.

Can I remove all metadata from a PDF?

You can clear all eight standard fields handled by this tool, but that is not a complete forensic metadata scrub. A PDF may contain a separate XMP stream, embedded files, comments, form data, revision history, or visible personal details. Use a specialist sanitizer when complete removal is required.

Why does a PDF reader still show an old title or author?

The PDF may contain both standard document properties and a separate XMP metadata record. Some readers prefer XMP, while others show the standard fields. This editor warns when it detects XMP but does not rewrite that XML stream, because doing so can damage archival or PDF/A metadata.

Can I edit a password-protected PDF?

Not with this tool. An encrypted PDF must be unlocked before its properties can be rewritten. Open it with the correct password in software you trust, save an unlocked copy that you are authorized to modify, and then add that copy to the metadata editor.
