01 / Overview

How do you rotate a video online?

To rotate a video online, choose a local clip, turn it 90, 180, or 270 degrees, and export a new MP4. You can also flip the picture horizontally or vertically to fix mirrored webcams and upside-down footage. Processing stays in your browser, so the source is not uploaded.

How to use

  1. 01
    Choose a video

Drop an MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI, MPEG, or another common video file into the tool.

  2. 02
    Set the orientation

Choose a 90, 180, or 270 degree rotation and add a horizontal or vertical flip if needed.

  3. 03
    Check the live preview

Play the transformed preview and confirm that text, faces, and the frame direction look correct.

  4. 04
    Export and download

Create the MP4 locally, preview the result, and download the watermark-free file.

Who it's for

  • Phone videographers can correct a sideways or upside-down recording before sharing it.
  • Remote teams can unmirror a webcam clip while keeping internal footage on the device.
  • Social creators can turn landscape dimensions into portrait dimensions with a quarter turn.
  • Teachers and presenters can fix recordings made with a rotated camera mount or capture device.

This video rotator applies the chosen transform to every decoded frame, then writes the result as H.264 video with AAC audio. Quarter turns swap the output width and height. Horizontal and vertical flips can be combined with any rotation, and the live preview shows the final orientation before processing starts.

The browser loads a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg only when you export. The first audio track is kept when present, while subtitles, extra tracks, chapters, attachments, and source metadata are left out. Browser memory makes the tool best for short or moderate clips. The conservative limit is 100 MB on mobile or lower-memory devices, 250 MB on a typical desktop, and 500 MB on high-memory desktops.

FAQ

Is my video uploaded when I rotate it?

No. Your browser reads the selected file and a WebAssembly video engine creates the result inside this tab. The engine code downloads when first needed, but your source video and transformed output are not sent to CanDoYa or stored in an account.

Is this video rotator free and watermark-free?

Yes. You can rotate, flip, preview, and download the MP4 without an account, subscription, credit limit, or watermark. The practical limits come from the memory and processor speed available on your device rather than a paid server export tier.

How large a video can I rotate in the browser?

The conservative limit is 100 MB on mobile or lower-memory devices, 250 MB on a typical desktop, and 500 MB on high-memory desktops. A file near the limit can still process slowly because the browser holds the source, video engine, working frames, and result in memory.

Can I rotate a video 90 degrees without cropping it?

Yes. A 90 or 270 degree turn swaps the output width and height, so the complete picture remains visible without cropping. For example, a 1920 x 1080 landscape frame becomes a 1080 x 1920 portrait frame. The tool may remove one edge pixel when an unusual source dimension is odd.

What is the difference between flipping and rotating a video?

Rotation turns the whole frame around its center. A horizontal flip mirrors left and right, while a vertical flip exchanges top and bottom. Use rotation for sideways footage, horizontal flip for reversed webcam text, and vertical flip for footage captured upside down across one axis.

Will the rotated video keep its audio?

Yes, when the source has a readable audio track. The exporter transforms and re-encodes the main picture, then places the first audio stream into the MP4 as AAC. Silent sources remain silent. Extra audio tracks, subtitles, chapters, attachments, and source metadata are not copied.

Will rotating a video reduce its quality?

The picture is re-encoded so the chosen orientation is baked into the output and works in players that ignore rotation metadata. The high-quality H.264 setting minimizes visible loss, but any lossy re-encode can change fine detail. Your original file remains untouched.

Which video formats can the rotator open?

It accepts common containers such as MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI, MPEG, WMV, MTS, and related video files, then exports MP4. Browser preview support is narrower than FFmpeg support, so a damaged or uncommon professional codec may need conversion or desktop software first.
